Biography



Bhakthi-Gitanjali.com is a testimony of the deep interest and commitment Dr. G. Ramakrishnan has towards sharing his devotional compositions and Bhajans in Malayalam and Tamil with those who have similar interests. While many of these compositions are his own, he has also improvised or tuned some of the lyrics and songs of other devotees, to whom he is ever grateful. He has taken keen interest to work with a team of instrumentalists led by Mr. V. Padmanabhan in Chennai in providing suitable background music. There are 44 songs sung by him as of now, he hopes to record and upload several more in the coming years.



Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, who holds Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry, has worked as Research Associate both at Florida State University and Brown University in the USA before settling down in jobs in India and abroad. He retired from Thermo Fisher Scientific, where he has served in various capacities including Managing Director for India operations. He has also served as Vice-President of Agilent Technologies in India and as Asia Pacific Regional Business Manager for Hewlett-Packard in Singapore for many years. He has also worked at the Forensic Research and Training Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After retirement, he built up the SIES Institute of Chromatography and Spectroscopy in Mumbai and served for 5 years as its Honorary Director. During his scientific and professional career he has served as VP and President of Indian Analytical Instrument Association. He was also a founder member of the scientific organization, Chromatographic Society of India of which he is currently the President. Dr.Ramakrishnan was instrumental in establishing the cultural organization ‘Powai Fine Arts’ as its President in 2010 and he is President for a second term at present.

Dr.G.Ramakrishnan, was born in a small village, Velappaya, in Trissur District in Kerala to (Late) V.S. Ganapathy Iyer and (Late) R.Parvathy Ammal. His childhood and his early life around the Velappaya Sivan temple and Karthyayani temple have had significant influence on his life. His initial exposure to music was listening to his parents, who were good in Carnatic music and devotional songs. While he has had no formal training in music he has picked up much of his singing skills from his eldest brother (Late) G.S.Mani ( Matunga,Mumbai), who was good in Carnatic music and Bhajans.

After finishing matriculation in Kerala, Dr. Ramakrishnan moved to Mumbai and studied at the SIES College, Sion where he obtained his M.Sc. degree in Organic Chemistry. He then joined as Research Fellow at BARC , where he obtained his Ph.D. degree . Dr.Ramakrishnan’s wife Mrs. Lata worked as a Lecturer in Botany in Mumbai University. Their elder son Ganesh studied MS in Biotechnology in USA and is presently working in Mumbai and his wife Mrs. Deepa is a school teacher. Their second son Dr. Girish is working as an Emergency Physician in Melbourne, Australia.
